An illegal alien with a history of “criminal mischief” has been charged with murder, arson and mutilation of a corpse in San Antonio – even as city officials contest Texas’s anti-sanctuary law.
Ernesto Esquivel-Garcia, 20, is being held on a $195,000 bond and a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
The grisly case is garnering additional interest as family members of the victim, 20-year-old Jared Vargas, accuse San Antonio Police of slow-walking their missing-person report and asking them to stay quiet about the incident.
The family said the evidence pointed to Esquivel-Garcia , noting that Jared’s car was parked at the apartment complex where Esquivel-Garcia lived.
“[Police Chief William] McManus and his legal team have told the family not to go public about the case,” a family friend said.
McManus is under investigation by the Texas Attorney General’s Office for possible violation of the state’s anti-sanctuary law in the release of 12 illegal aliens last December. San Antonio is among the cities waging a prolonged court battle to overturn Senate Bill 4.
Police say they acted properly in the Vargas murder case, and deny asking the family to stay mum.
Court records show Esquivel-Garcia was charged in March 2017 with obstructing a highway, intoxication and criminal mischief. But he was soon back on the streets. ICE did not say why no detainer was placed on Esquivel-Garcia at that time.
ICE spokeswoman Nina Pruneda could not confirm any details about Esquivel-Garcia. The agency did not explain how the illegal alien obtained employment at a trendy area restaurant, where the victim also worked.
Esquivel-Garcia was apprehended when he was stopped for a traffic violation – two days after Vargas’s charred body was found in an apartment previously occupied by Esquivel-Garcia.
Mike Helle, president of the San Antonio Police Officers Association, believes officers handled the case properly. But he told FAIR:
“San Antonio is a place illegals flock to because the chief and mayor will not enforce [laws]or assist Homeland Security. For them to say they will do so going forward is too little, too late. The damage is done.”

What part of illegal don’t these people understand they have no rights…. they shouldn’t be here…. they’re taken from the legal people ….the schools are all screwed up the financial situation is all messed up because of the illegals…. send them back from which they came…. they don’t deserve a dime of tax payers money.. .
Agree 100%. The schools are messed up and the ones fighting for this country come back without as many limbs as they had and leave separated from their children to fight for our rights. Some not coming back alive and their kids are separated for life from their own parents when they did something legal. I’ll cry for them. The Veterans are not getting the help promised to them always because the illegals are taking it. Deport them at the borders without spending so much to send them back.

One has to wonder what the “criminal mischief” was this guy was involved in. Probably a long laundry list of crimes and infractions that were dismissed because of his youth. Another criminal protected by liberals.
The Sunday news shows were at it again with their usual bias and misinformation. One of the guests interviewed by Chuck Todd on Meet The Press was “independent” Senator Angus King of Maine. King is about as independent as Bernie Sanders, both of whom caucus with the Democrats and have solidly liberal records.
Chuck Todd’s wife worked for Dem Sen. Jim Webb, gave 2500 to Dem Sen. Tim Kaine, and her media company did $2 million of business for Bernie. In spite of all that, Todd has interviewed the 3 of them numerous times and never mentioned any of it. One of his regular “panel” guests is “conservative” George Will, who has urged all voters to vote against any and all GOP candidates to punish Trump.
On ABC George Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton aide, interviewed retiring GOP Senator Jeff Flake who bashed Trump and proudly pointed out his part in the Gang of 8 amnesty bill in 2013, and claimed that bill had $41 billion for infrastructure and enforcement. A complete lie because the only plans for actually enforcing the border were “studies” that would take two years to make any recommendations. Flake also failed to mention that the bill was a total amnesty for every illegal in the country. A liar like his pal McCain.
On CBS Sunday Morning it was story after story about “the children”. Host Jane Pauley is also married to liberal Doonesbury cartoonist Gary Trudeau who is totally anti Trump. But no bias in the media, no way. After all, their guests are Democrats who hate Trump and Republicans who hate Trump.
