Temporary Protected Status (TPS), the provision that temporarily shields non-resident aliens from deportation and furnishes them work permits, was designed to help foreigners who might face danger if they returned home because of unsettled conditions in their homeland. Unfortunately, it has morphed into a form of rolling amnesty because it is regularly renewed each time it is set to expire. The rationale for the extensions becomes increasingly nebulous and unjustified as time goes by.
But, one characteristic of TPS has been constant; it has applied only to foreign nationals that were physically in the U.S. before a given event such as a natural disaster or coup. That meant that it could not be used by continuing arrivals from that same country. It could not, in theory, act as a magnet for new illegal immigration.
An announcement by the Department of Homeland Security on August 1 has shattered that pattern completely. First it renewed the TPS designation for Syrians that was first adopted in March 2012 and has been repeatedly extended until it was due to expire in September 2016. Those beneficiaries have been spared from having to return home by a further extension until March 2018. Then, it specified a new period of eligibility to gain TPS protection by Syrians who arrived in the country any time before August 1, 2016. That covers all those Syrians who came into the country between 2012 and the present, regardless of their current immigration status.
The danger of this unprecedented reopening of TPS is that it will signal that once TPS is proclaimed – as it currently exists for Central American countries – there will be no hindrance to continuing to provide TPS benefits to newly arriving illegal aliens. TPS, in essence, becomes a carrot.

Refugee rapes 79yo woman at German cemetery

A new rape scandal is brewing in Germany after 40-year-old man from Eritrea with official refugee status was arrested as he was sexually assaulting an elderly woman at a cemetery in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The disturbing attack took place in the western German town of Iddenbueren on Sunday.
A local resident alerted the police after he heard a cry for help coming from the cemetery.
The victim, a 79-year-old boarder of a nursing home, was provided first aid before being transferred to a medical facility for treatment. She was released from the hospital on Tuesday.
The pensioner is known to visit the cemetery fairly regularly to mourn her long-dead sister, Bild reported.
The alleged perpetrator, who has been living in Germany since 2013, was charged with rape by the prosecution and placed into custody for the course of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office of Munster and police for the district of Steinfurt, where the town is located, said in a joint statement.
Before being arrested, the suspect was staying at a refugee shelter in the nearby town of Horstel. The assailant did not resist the police as they arrived at the scene early on Sunday morning. He faces up to 15 years behind bars if found guilty.
A wave of sexually-related offences in Germany has triggered immense public outrage and forced authorities to review existing anti-rape laws. The most notorious incident took place during this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in Cologne, where wide-scale sexual assaults took place.
In an effort to reduce the underreporting of rape crimes, Germany’s parliament introduced a new law on sexual offences earlier this month labeled “no means no,” under which victims will no longer be required to prove that they physically resisted the assailant, which was mandatory for rape charges to be brought against an assailant before. The old standard led to many offences not being reported, as victims had often been intimidated into the sexual contact.
“The change in the law will help increase the number of victims who choose to press charges, lower the number of criminal prosecutions that are shelved, and ensure sexual assaults are properly punished,” said Manuela Schwesig, Germany’s federal minister of family affairs, senior citizens, women and youth, in commenting on the law.
As the majority of the sexual attacks committed in Cologne were linked to men from North Africa and the Middle East, the law put special emphasis on asylum seekers and migrants involved in sexual crimes. The legislation specifies that any sexually-related conviction could be a pretext for denying refugee status and also facilitate deportation.
More than 1.1 million refugees, mostly from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, entered Germany last year. The unprecedented influx has boosted the popularity of right-wing parties and created tension within German society.
According to a survey conducted by pollster GfK, 83 percent of Germans now consider immigration to be country’s biggest challenge – a staggering increase from last year’s figure of 35 percent.
One can only hope that no Americans are killed by terrorists as a result of this insanity.
Trump is supposed to be the big threat to the country’s security. But his attitude toward Muslim immigration is at least realistic. When Hillary says Muslims have “nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism”, then the only logical conclusion is that she is going to reinforce that through policy. For instance, suppose an agent has investigated “one too many” Muslims, and they get a talking to about how they can’t stereotype, so that agent backs off a solid lead.
Everyone ignores the fact her top aide is Huma Abedin, who is herself a Muslim. You think she does not have Hillary’s ear on the subject? And Abedin”s mother, who Hillary has personally praised, edited a book on Sharia law, Women In Islam, in which the author endorsed all the stone age Muslim philosophy such as death for leaving Islam.
I knew about Huma, but I didn’t know her mother edited a book on Sharia law. Not a good sign that her daughter is Hillary’s top aid.
There is a whole lot about both mother and daughter that the mainstream media refuses to touch. Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann tried to point a lot of this out but got slammed by people like John McCain, which is no surprise.
The book the mother edited, and receives credit for doing so, Women In Islam, says “it is unlawful to kill a Muslim except under 3 conditions”, the third exception being “the one who reverts from Islam and leaves the Muslims”. Any sane person should have an issue with that. You need to die because you leave Islam?
But in a July 2010 speech at Dar Al-Hakima College in Jedda Saudi Arabia, Hillary said “I have to say a special word about Dr. Saleha Abedin [the mother]”. The only special words she should be saying is that she denounces such thinking.
I wish John McCain would go ahead and retire, instead of hanging around and continuing to stab the American people in the back. While his military record is impressive, his record in Congress isn’t, with him supporting open borders, amnesty, etc. And of course he was involved in the big “Keating 5” scandal back in the 1980s as one of the 5 crooked Inside the Beltway Senators.
