Income Inequality Should Be a Political Issue

moneyYou might think that income inequality is an issue that is a winner for Democrats. Democrat politicians, including the current presidential candidates bloviate about the trend in increasing inequality and suggest income redistributive policies to address it.

But those same Democrat politicians embrace large-scale immigration, support increases beyond today’s million-plus level of immigration, and advocate accommodating illegal aliens. So, it seems that they do not understand – or choose to ignore – the relationship between immigration – especially illegal immigration – and income inequality.

A March 30 commentary by Ryan Girdusky on the Red Alert website should serve as a reminder to those politicians that there is no free lunch on this issue. Girdusky writes about a recently released London School of Economics study found that, “…low-skill immigrants raise income inequality while high-skill immigrants lower income inequality for certain selective income pairings…” The researchers concluded that, “One possible way to mitigate the effects of immigration on income inequality is to see changes in immigration policy that result in a change in the mix of immigrants admitted to the United States.”

This conclusion that the current immigration policy and practice of the United States exacerbates the problem of inequality is not new. FAIR research reached a similar conclusion in studies published in 1996 and 2007.

It is time for an immigration timeout. Yes, I know that thousands of immigration attorneys would have to find alternative work and the Green Card Processing Center boondoggle in Vermont might have to close, so be it. We’ve had forty plus years of uncontrolled immigration coupled with six amnesties resulting in a middle class that is disappearing. If immigration is so wonderful then why is America in the economic mess that it is in? Where is the dream of Americans whose children are blocked from high tech careers because of the importation of foreign workers?

That’s why the political establishment hates Trump. He wants those worker visas cut way back. The press is engaged with a gotcha game. He was asked if he would rule out using nuclear weapons in the middle east. He said I can’t unilaterally rule out anything. Then he was asked if he would rule out using them in Europe and he said he could not rule out that. Not that he meant he would use them, but what if he said he would never use them in Europe? Wouldn’t he get accused of racism because he ruled out Europe? There’s no winning with the media.

William the 40 + years of immigration led this country to become a power……..the reason we are in trouble is simply bad management in Congress……and States….etc.

      • avatar

So we were not a “power” before the last 40 years of illegal immigration? Laughable.

        • avatar

Leland you are laughable by your now remarks…..illegal immigration has been happening since the 1600’s…..all along until now…..hahahaha!!! you make me laugh……you hate the 1965 Immigration Law but without it Martin Gomez would have never been here and the country would have not become what it did before the 2008 collapse…..

When I went to school for engineering, more than 50% were not Americans and as you went for a Masters and PhD, mostly from all over the World and the professors, the best from all over the World……..these guys went onto all the STEM careers and got jobs successfully…..nowadays unless you are mainly a full-time the odds are a contracting company is bringing indians to the job overnight taking ours jobs…..like SWE mentioned once….BUT fewer and fewer or our children are pursuing science and nt his case engineering careers and are LAZY and want the money fast pursuing MBAs, etc…..for instance and MBA?….easy to get and completely BS in science unless it is used properly but mostly studied to get a title only to move up…..so a non-consequential degree in engineering mostly……again unless less than 1% of the graduates, used properly…..

This matter is complex, but doing simple math…population vs under that table jobs etc…..the illegals are a drop in the bucket compare to the Somalis, Cubans, some green card holders abusing the System BUT….these workers for instance taking the engineering jobs…that i what is breaking in an irreversible manner the middle class…….

For the way Martin Gomez answered, he is not a science professional and if so studied in the country he comes from…….since he is not aware of this…..

I remember not too long ago SWE e=mentioned the indians in Oregon taking the jobs…..well I think they are all over now……

        Martin Gomez on

That’s ridiculous. The last 40 years of immigration have not only led America to having 30% of the nation unemployed and 30% on welfare, but planted the seeds for a demographic nightmare. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer, and the middle class is eroding before our eyes. Most immigrants require welfare, driving up the debt. Takers outnumber, and are out-breeding, makers. Immigration has devastated not only the lower class, but existing immigrants who cannot compete with newer, less expensive immigrants.

What happens when the welfare state collapses? What happens when the makers all leave, rather than support the takers?

        We need immigration control now!

        • avatar

Martin Gomez WAKE UP!! and smell the coffee……the majority of the Welfare BY FAR is by our own…..do some research……….why are we in bad shape? there major things

1.- Congress sessions have been in vain….no action
2.- States management of the treasury
          3.- Outsource of our industry….

I don’t see any illegals or immigrants here that made or did not make any decision on all of the above……..

          • avatar

You’re lying again for the 50th time. Immigrants participate in more welfare programs at a higher rate than native born Americans.

          • avatar

Leland read above what I said:

“ome green card holders abusing the System ”

It is inferred in #1…number one is the tope level….go down the chain…….Congress makes sure our own that the major problem does not abuse Welfare, etc…then the immigrants last any of the anchor babies…

I am not lying, you just again did not read nor grasped what I meant……

          • avatar

Leland after reading this, you should now comprehend and understand how our System works and and how each part of it and the issues come to make the reality we have now. Read it more times, study it, become more knowledgeable the why’s and perhaps you can also improve in a better way this place.

By the way I am not being facetious nor trying to make an example the least out of what I just said. I do mean it…….look into it……..you will be surprise what you find and how some of the Congress reps really either lie to you or simply they follow the culture of institution non-President-Lincoln-like…flip flopping……

        • avatar

Martin Gomez perhaps you should go for a STEM career so that you can be one more of us to help the situation…as is….you are a zero to the left of a whole number…………or any number ….

      • avatar

        No Change,
You are still insulting people online, such as calling Mr. Gomez a zero. Are you sure you don’t have a short man, or Napoleon complex? I think a combination of weight lifting and mixed martial arts classes would be effective in treating your syndrome. That way you can work out your issues in a more appropriate setting than FAIR’s website.

You are basically wasting your time on this website. A lot of people have donated their money to make this website possible, and none of us care what you think. I hope Trump is elected so you will deported back to Mexico where you belong. Get lost No Change.

        • avatar

SecBorders …….read English and understand what I said…….then talk to me….you are going senile….and you deserve what I am telling you since you claim I insult people and you are doing the same…..ou know what syndrome you have?…it is called being ignorant and old…..you asked for it……..

        • avatar

SecBorders let me understand this a notch more….you have called our government, president and illegals all types of insults….yet you want respect?……remember we are in the USA….you are treated the same way you treat others……..you are out of line Sir!!!

          • avatar

After this I will no longer be feeding illegal alien criminal trolls. No matter how many of your ancestors you say came over on the Mayflower and no matter how many PhDs and Nobel Prizes you say you have, I know that you are a Mexican flag waving, illegal alien criminal, fifth columnist troll who is part of the reconquista. I would turn you in to the authorities myself if I could for your deportation back to Mexico. One can only hope that Trump will be elected so you will be deported back to Mexico where you belong. Goodbye and good riddance!

          • avatar

SecBorders I never said The Mayflower nor I have PhDs and the least Nobel Prizes……you see you are the very example…a loony that we have as a voters that vote for looneys …….that are elected.back to Mexico!…..ha…….you are in my land *******!!!

    • avatar

Where is the dream of Americans whose children are blocked from high tech careers because of the importation of foreign workers?

Are you for real?…….not too many nowadays pursue a science career………

      • avatar

That’s a lie. We have a lot of American workers with STEM degrees who have been fired because their companies want cheaper foreign workers.

      • avatar
        Martin Gomez on

More nonsense. US is importing more STEM workers than there are jobs, and employers are responding by dumping Americans to leverage the surplus of cheap foreign labor. American STEM graduates are working part-time at Starbucks to get by. Importing workers to displace our own is a recipe for disaster.

        • avatar

Martin Gomez if you answered my feedback, you completely misunderstood what I said and/or you know nothing about what I said,,,,,

        • avatar

So Martin Gomez to make it fair:

1.- what do you understand by STEM careers?
2.- When do you come to the US or got your green card?

#1 will tell me what you understand but it and if you can grasp the reality of the STEM industry….
#2 will tell us if you are an anchor baby and how you came here.

          • avatar

#2 also will tell me your mentality …..how you think…there is no wrong or right..it is what it is…..

          • avatar

it is what it is…..we all want a better place….and that includes you with us……..
