Obama Amnesty Plan’s Legal Hurdle
“The U.S. Supreme Court is poised to resolve a procedural dispute that may foreshadow the fate of President Barack Obama’s stalled deferred-deportation program. The court could act imminently on a request by Texas and 25 other states for a 30-day extension of the deadline to respond to the administration’s bid for a hearing,” Bloomberg News says.
“If the court grants the request, the justices would have to deviate from their normal scheduling practices to consider the case during the nine-month term that ends in June. The administration says the court should allow only an 8-day extension to ensure the case can be heard this term.”
Sanders Releases Immigration Plan
“Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders vowed Tuesday to create a “humane” immigration system and said if elected he would expand upon President Barack Obama’s executive actions within the first 100 days of assuming the presidency,” ABC News reports.
“The Vermont senator said he would allow all undocumented immigrants who have been in the United States for at least five years to stay in the country without fear of being deported. He said nearly 9 million people would be covered by his actions.”
Hillary Clinton Apologizes for Using the Word “Illegal”
“Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton admitted Tuesday that her recent use of the term ‘illegal immigrants’ was ‘a poor choice of words,’ and pledged to stop using the word ‘illegal’ when referring to immigrants,” MSNBC says.
“‘That was a poor choice of words. As I’ve said throughout this campaign, the people at the heart of this issue are children, parents, families, DREAMers. They have names, and hopes and dreams that deserve to be respected,’ Clinton said during a Facebook Q&A with Noticias Telemundo, an NBC-affiliated Spanish-language network.”
