On July 1, Kate Steinle was tragically shot and killed at San Francisco’s Pier 14 by an illegal alien with seven convictions and five previous deportations. Did you know that the suspect, Francisco Sanchez, was in ICE custody about to be deported a 6th time when San Francisco law enforcement stopped the removal proceedings, claiming they wanted to prosecute Sanchez on a decades old drug offense? Yet, within days of Sanchez being in San Francisco law enforcement custody they dismissed the charges and released him onto the streets. Outrageously, did you know that ICE had issued a detainer-signaling their intent to assume custody and begin removal proceedings once San Francisco finished handling the drug charge-but San Francisco law enforcement refused to comply?
Sadly, that is exactly what happened because San Francisco is a sanctuary city-State and local jurisdictions with policies that obstruct immigration enforcement. Despite the compassionate sounding term, sanctuary cities pose a serious threat to public safety because illegal aliens know they are protected. Indeed, Sanchez admitted he went to San Francisco because he knew it is a sanctuary city. As a result, Kate Steinle is dead.

It has now been 3 months since Kate Steinle’s preventable death but Congress has done NOTHING to put an end to these jurisdictions that defy federal immigration law. The House passed a bill to deny federal funds to sanctuary cities before the August recess but the Senate has failed to do the same.
Call your Senators.
Tell them the cost of inaction is significant, defund sanctuary cities NOW!
Immediately after the Steinle murder, Members of Congress from both parties voiced opposition to sanctuary cities. Yet, the Senate has inexplicably not taken up the issue since returning after Labor Day. Protecting American Lives should be Congress’s top priority; the Senate must pass a bill to eliminate sanctuary cities NOW!
Call your Senators. Tell them:
- You OPPOSE sanctuary cities which ignore federal immigration laws and jeopardize American lives;
- You expect them to VOTE FOR legislation that denies federal funds to sanctuary cities;
- You expect them to pass the bill IMMEDIATELY; and
- You expect them to PRESSURE President Obama into signing the bill into law.
