Yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began accepting applications for deferred action through US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). FAIR has been closely tracking developments in President Obama’s executive amnesty since its announcement on June 15. Below are some of the things you need to know about the President’s unilateral changes to U.S. immigration policy.
- President Obama’s amnesty will add nearly 2 million workers – possibly more – to the U.S. job market. This is a negligent economic and social policy with over 8% unemployment and half of recent young college graduates unemployed or underemployed.
- Lax documentation requirements to prove eligibility. DHS application instructions explicitly state that only copies of documents will be required to meet the eligibility criteria for amnesty including length of presence in the U.S., education, and even identity. Also, illegal aliens will be able to submit any and all documents they deem relevant to prove their eligibility. Virtually any form of documentation will be accepted, from report cards and plane tickets to mere personal correspondence.
- The Administration is making this up as they go along. In June, President Obama touted this policy as the “right thing to do” for some of the best and brightest. However, it is clear that the educational, residency and character requirements are becoming increasingly lax as more details about the implementation of the amnesty emerge.
- No face-to-face interview required. Most applications will be approved based only on the documentation submitted.
- Few safeguards against and limited consequences for filing fraudulent applications or documents. If DHS is actually diligent enough to identify fraud, the new amnesty instructions merely state that the Administration “may” elect to penalize illegal aliens by denying immigration benefits or placing them into removal proceedings. However, since illegal aliens are only required to submit copies – which lack identifiers of authenticity – it is unknown how USCIS employees will be able to identify fraud in the first place.
- USCIS turns blind eye to past illegal employment. Illegal aliens may use employment records to show eligibility for amnesty despite the fact illegal aliens are barred from working in the U.S. Past employers of illegal alien applicants are not likely to face prosecution for hiring illegal aliens.
- Family of deferred action recipients will also reap the benefits. Application instructions explicitly state that information collected on an illegal alien will not be used against him or her, or their “family members and guardians,” for the purpose of immigration enforcement.
- Illegal aliens granted work authorization can obtain Social Security cards. Illegal aliens granted deferred action must apply for employment authorization if they present an “economic necessity.” Once received, DHS work authorization will allow them to apply for a Social Security Number and possibly other benefits like driver’s licenses.
- Illegal aliens with a criminal history DO qualify. DHS says only felony and “serious misdemeanor” convictions will make illegal aliens ineligible for amnesty, and even then, convictions won’t necessarily be considered if they are expunged. Additionally, criminal convictions in foreign countries will go undetected and DHS will “exercise discretion” when considering juvenile records.
- USCIS doesn’t have a great track record. Earlier this year, the DHS Inspector General found that USCIS leadership told employees to rubber-stamp applications for immigration benefits – including work authorization. In leaked documents to the Associated Press, USCIS estimated that it will review 3,000 deferred action and work authorization applications daily, only increasing the pressure to overlook possible fraud and approve benefits quickly.

One of the complaints from the administration and whose touting for amnesty is the cost of deportation. The cost of maintaing these illegals is hidden. The fact is if once deported and the borders tighten, the cost is but once, Just think, those thirty years old and younger have cost millions and will continue to do so.

Beware everyone, this is only the beginning. If Obama gets another four years he will use his executive order again for ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS. As a legal immigrant and now a citizen this backdoor amnesty has made me very angry. Millions without work, and that includes my husband, and yet he has added about two million more, and one they get a SS card we will never get rid of them.

The time frame for debating the illegal alien crisis ended with the first illegals who crossed our borders and established their lifestyles in this nation. It is time now to act to reverse this travesty.
Apathy downloaded the United States into the immigration crisis and until this attitude is rectified, there is no hope for abolishing the corruption on Capitol Hill. The lobbyists control the ebb and flow of our legislative process and sadly, Razaunida and other radical hispanic groups are among the most notorious for purchasing votes to help them in their goal to create a Mexican America.

Congress continues to stand idly by as Janet Napolitano assaults our federal immigration laws by daring anyone to question her right to rewrite and interpret these laws to benefit the illegal aliens. Nothing short of summary execution will put an end to this invasion of this Country by the forces of the third world. Sadly, the root causes go much deeper. This administration, like many previous administrations, is simply fulfilling the goals set forth by the international banking elite who have adopted the model of society first articulated by Auguste Comte in the 19th century. The entire planet is to be divided into 5 regions, including North America, which is to encompass everything north of the Panama Canal into a single entity, with bankers and elite think tanks (read: foundations and research institutes) in complete control. This is the reason the American people have been forced to learn Spanish and to accept a never-ending number of Latino communities, for whom the welcome mat is thrown out with any number of social benefits and employment and educational opportunities. American citizens will continue to foot the bill, and we will continue to have NO SAY in the matter. Many of my family and friends took the legal route to get here; applied for green cards as cancer specialists and molecular biologists, and are STILL waiting after six and a half years! They were obviously stupid in thinking that the legal route would prove rewarding.

Try this for wet blanket. I did have a dream- to go to school and finish my degree. As an American citizen, working for the state government, I was given a full ride. That was until legislation changed last year and refocused the funds for my degree to that of the illegal immigrants. For their medical coverage, welfare programs, child care, and yes, THEIR education. Now I can’t finish the degree I started years ago. You think you understand wet blanket?! This DREAM Act is a nightmare for American citizens! How is it right for foreigners (of any nation) to be put BEFORE citizens? You think Calderon’s gonna grant me some exclusive opportunities down in Mexico before any of your fleeing Mexican cousins? Absolutely not. Someone helpfully pointed out to us that we didn’t mention that illegal aliens with “serious misdemeanor” convictions are also supposed to be barred from the amnesty. Convictions not labled “serious” by DHS and therefore not automatically disqualifying include: certain assault, battery, trespass, drug possession, prostitution, vandalism, reckless driving, and fraud offenses.
The American people are OUTRAGED by the continued abuse of power by the executive office. They have abrogated for themselves the power to bypass and override Congress, in effect, to govern by decree. These are hallmarks of dictatorship.
The American people do not want their country to be unified with Mexico and the rest of Central America into a North American Union. Where is Congress? The members of the House have been vocal against this matter but can’t change anything because the Senate blocks all their efforts to correct it. Once the Senate becomes populated with common sense folks you will hear a lot about this matter on TV and in the blogs. There is a time and place for everything. Our form of Government requires majorities to enact law.

I used to be a predictable Democrat, but I realize now that a large majority of their voters are out for what they can get? The people who are medically infirm or mentally sick are the ones who are hurting, because government support has been cut way down, to pay the schooling, health care treatment for illegal aliens, which is our burden to tolerate? Presumably not under the prospective presidency of MITT ROMNEY or President Obama will the situation change for the American people, but with an understanding of previous issue debates and discussions of VP Paul Ryan, he seems to have the attributes moderate conservative that can really upset his Democrat betrayers of the U.S. Constitution. Immigration and under Obama’s Justice Department all I can see for the future, is more unrealistic backdoor amnesties through executive orders. More money for taxpayers to keep filling the state treasuries to pay for unfunded mandates for illegal immigrant support, just as matching with the ObamaCare, so everybody is forcibly committed to pay for the parasites who find it easy to live of the working public.
Whereas I was originally a democrat in a Republican family, but all I have ever seen from both political parties, is nothing more that the same agenda’s with never ever any different in the direction they are going. The green project pushed by fanatical environmentalists is pushing for windmills, solar are not enough at this time, when America desperately needs energy to run industry and our homes. Can you believe Obama actually wants to give even MORE money to the green industry—despite wasting billions in taxpayer dollars to fund now BANKRUPT solar companies? Can you say Solyndra? Remember that Obama donors had ties to those companies. Corruption and cronyism is running rampant at the taxpayers’ expense?
Both parties are guilty of allowing OPEC and other countries to control our oil needs, when we have immense deposits off the coast and inland. Shipping goods is costing truckers their jobs, because Obama’s EPA prefers to stick us with foreign oil and the costs that come with it.
Turn the tide of an unceasing Socialist experiment played by the Democrats and Liberals, with an incredulous plan that Obama is sure to enact if has a new coronation next year. The Tea Party no longer has the luxury of merely trying to win, it is now “do or die” for our nation. The struggle is between a socialist schedule and the endurance of the Free-Enterprise Republic. Both parties refuse to enact mandatory E-Verify (H.R. 2885), to expel illegal aliens from businesses, and a Birthright Citizenship law (H.R. 140), that allows a projected 400.000 babies a year who gain citizenship, without a parent holding U.S. citizenship status. With an unmatched nationwide recession, the Democrats and Republicans have done nothing to reduce the 16 trillion deficits, that this country is now being financially asphyxiated.
American citizens have witnessed firsthand the destructive power of Obama’s socialist agenda and seen, with their own eyes, the destruction that radical Marxist advocate Sal D. Alinsky tactics have brought. Surf his name on the Internet and see the influence of people as this individual and Socialist George Soros. Lax controls at voter polls; a national campaign such as ACORN soliciting foreigners to register to vote and a strong opposition to the use of photo ID at voter polls by the Washington Czars. I read your statement,
Your principles have mirrored my beliefs during my lifetime.
The American people need to wake up, and remove the trash in November.
We need to get back to the basics and the letter of the land (The Constitution of the United States of America) it worked the first 200 years.
We need to get rid of politicians who continue to “milk” our system for their own benefit. We need to make them accountable. After the American civil war the money and land grabbing politicians were called “Carpet Baggers”, now days we call them “Fat Cats in the Boy’s Club.”
Several years ago the subject of term limits came up, and then went. I supported a congressman when he was elected to Congress, because he supported Term Limits. Well guess what happened, He was voted in and turned into a fat cat to benefit himself. He never received another dime or vote from me after that first election.
Obama was quoted in the book “The Amateur” after making promise after promise for support in his election bid to Congress he turned his back on a major supporter. Page 33 and stated “Come on man, you should know better when politicians make promises.’
When I attended school, during history class we were taught about governments that took the advantage of their citizens. For example; World War II, America came to the aid of Europe, our solders sacrificed lives to help these countries become free.
Obama is in revolt against the values of the society he was elected to lead. He is a callow, thin skinned, arrogant president with messianic dreams of grandeur.
The United Nations Small Arms Treaty is a good example of what’s going on behind closed doors. The wording in the treaty is very vague and in the end a truly sinister way to circumvent our Constitutional Second Amendment.
The definition of “Illicit weapons and Small arms” is anything sold over a counter. I have read the treaty to the end and was totally flabbergasted.
